What do you want to say with your photography?

Have you ever seen a great photograph and thought “I could do that” (… or, “I wish I could do that”)?

Do you love doing photography, but sometimes feel like your work is coming up short of your own expectations?

When looking over a broad selection of your images, does it seem that the pictures could have been made by many different people?

These are issues that many photographers face at crucial points along our creative journeys.

I made this class for people like you and me, who feel that we have something to say with our pictures but aren’t always sure what that is, or how to best express it.

I can help you with all of this!

In this 90-minute online session, we’ll cover:

  • Historical foundations that all photographers should know
  • Identifying essential concepts and core themes in your own work
  • Leveraging and learning from influences—without being a copycat
  • The fundamentals of photographic design
  • The role of technology
  • Getting help: Critiques and portfolio reviews, etc.
    …and more!

As with all art forms, the most powerful photography can be that which expresses your unique personality. Unfortunately, many photographic artists struggle to put the pieces together in the most satisfying and productive ways.

Visual art has its own vocabulary. And like learning a language, you can make more progress when you have a foundation in some of the basic rules. It also helps to have some kind of plan to work to, so you can see when you are making progress and identify new obstacles to overcome.

This introductory class will give you the necessary structure to make the most important creative decisions to guide your artistic practice toward higher levels of success and joy!
